Burning Night

Burning Night turns a lullaby into a relentless dance of images and movements, guided by hypnotic rhythms and captivating melodic lines that will have the listener hold their breath. A fleeting moment of respite, and the music plunges back into the whirlwind. Burning Night was entirely recorded on cello, employing extended techniques to craft all the sounds and textures.

You'll hear the lullaby theme in the opening, and in the middle of the piece. It comes back in the end, but transformed.

The characteristic element of Burning Night is the riff and the percussive rhythms. The riff, between arpeggios and melody, suggests the harmony. The 8/9 bar is unevenly partitioned, creating an impression of an unstoppable and hypnotizing movement. Two percussive tracks, where the bow plays with chops (a percussive stroke on the strings) are panned left and right, thus creating a bouncing motion.
