Ask the Bird is an introspective instrumental track, entirely produced on a cello. If the mood is rather dark, in the end it will leave you with a note of hope. Like an internal quest for answers, the music asks questions, and ultimately finds peace and rest in the closing notes of the track.
Ask the Bird was originally a song, written in French. It's title was A Dos d'Hirondelle (on a swallow's back). Madeleine turned it into an instrumental piece later in the process and we can still identify the verse-chorus structure.
A characteristic element of this song is the bow stroke that marks the beat, starting softly on the downbeat and then accentuating the offbeat. It runs throughout the verses and changes for the choruses.
